Freelander at that price... Diesel will be well worn unless your lucky and find someone who has owned and cherished it or a petrol with possible head gasket issues.
Larger family car, saloon/hatch/estate of the Mondeo, Passat or Octavia. I was looking for an Octavia but they were all high miles or abused. Passats were expensive if good.
Mondeo's get some stick for reliability, but find a good one and they will do over 300k miles.
Sisters got my old one which had over 170,000 miles on when she had it and she does almost 30,000 miles a year in it. She is off up the N/E tomorrow so sticking another few hundred miles on it. Now with over 220,000 miles.
Service them well and they go on and on. But with any modern car budget £1000 for a clutch if it has not had one. Modern clutches with dual mass flywheels can be a bit pricey. But so many cars use them these days.
