Our in laws have kindly bought us a caravan but we are unsure if our vehicle can tow it? We have a Citroen c4 grand Picasso, 1.6. And the caravan is a 1991 swift conqueror (we think) twin axle. Looking at my car paperwork it's towing mass is 1180kg braked and 750kg unbraked. We need to get a tow bar but obviously can't if it's not going to be able to tow it. Very new to this and not understanding information I've found otherwise.thank u
You need to find weight plate on caravan. it will be on lower exterior body somewhere. Either by door or at front. Higher figure will be the gross loaded weight which needs to be less than car max tow weight. If it's a full sized twin axle I would guess it would be too heavy.
If you do buy a car large enough enough to tow it you will probably need B+E on your licence which you will have if you passed your test before 1997. If after then you won't.
You need a bigger car. You need a caravan that has a max weight of 1180 kg or less, that caravan has a gross weight of around 1500 kg so it's far too heavy for your car. You need a car with a kerb weight of 1750 kg or more that can tow 1500 kg. You will probably need a B+E licence to tow that sort of combination.
Thank u both for your reply. Although not ideal as don't really need a new car but we thought that would be the case, or swap for a lighter caravan. My husband has the correct licence for towing so at least that's bit sorted and i can get chauffeured around 😉 thank u again
Seen a Picasso towing a twin swift conqueror last year on the M180.
Not an ideal tow car i must say, if it is the full sized twin axle.
Thank god i was going the other way.
We had a Conqueror twin axle 645sal which we towed with a disco. When we decided to get a new car and not go for a 4x4 (estate instead) we downsized the van because we felt it needed something big and tank like to tow it.
