Hi,

Just spotted a Shogun 2.5 TD GLX Sport (2000),FSH, low miles, exc cond. taking it for a test drive tomorrow, can someone please tell me any hot spots to look out for?  also how do I make sure that the 4wd works properly? (blonde question i know).

My only concern with the vehicle is that I spotted fresh oil on a box on the n/s rear underneath. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Carolyn

not that far out it depends on how heavy your feet are!  we get 35 mpg without the trailer on the back and it drops to 30 mpg with it but that is very carefully does it all the time just have to drive just below the turbo kicking in make sure the transfer box is ok by using it, if its only been used on the school run and have been in low box and you have any problems getting it in or out of gear walk away, unless youve got loads of money to burn.

My '97 Disco does 28mpg pottering around and 33mpg on a run. Only ever towed a small trailer and that makes no difference.

I think that if you take the average mpg figures for all diesel 4x4's then they are all pretty similar. Just boils down to personal preference.

i have a 2.5tdi pajero,(shogun with a different badge).my only advice would be to go for the 2.8tdi as the 2.5tdi is slow.plus the 2.8 cam is chain driven which is prefered rather than the belt driven 2.5

hi mebeddoe, when you go and have a look at the shogun, look under the jeep onto the ground and see if there is any oil there, if there is don't touch it, when you test drive it, when you change gear listen to any funny noises, bangging, etc.....after the test drive have a look under the bonnet, leave the engine runnnig, see if there is any oil dripping from any where, a funny burning smell will let you know if there is a oil leak somewhere, again check under the jeep on the ground see if there is any oil there now, if all seems well then the jeep sounds ok, i hope this helps

A workmate has a 2.5 LWB Pajero, nice motor but heavy on diesel and slow. 70mph on a m/way is so loud, rpm to high and the fuel goes quick, 60mph is comfortable and more economical but hey all the trucks will have to pass you even with their limiters. Not a pleasant drive he wishes he had not got rid of his Pug 406 1.9 TDi
