Should be straight forward. You will find fitting instructions on Al-ko website and a fitting demo on Youtube.

Below is a link to a short video on how to exchange the existing hitch for a stabilser hitch. Although the video shows the AL-KO 3004 stabiliser the method is identical for changing any other AL-KO stabilser including the 1300 model.

If its an ALKO chassis no problem. It should come with a selection of spacers anyway.

I would consider the bigger unit unless its a small trailer.

The bigger unit damps the pitch and sway. The 1300 doesn't.

It all depends on the weight of the caravan being towed. The AL-KO 1300 is designed for caravans with an MTPLM (max. laden weight) of up 1360 kgs. although it's not a hard and fast rule as my caravan weighs 1300 kgs. and have the 3004 model fitted.
If you are buying a second hand one then the advice is not to opt for the older 2000 model as the hitch lock is different and won't fit either the 1300 or 3004 stabilsers.
I have used all 3 models (1300, 2000 and 3004) and find that the 3004 model is far the best. The 3004 towball locking handle stays upright then when you wind down the jockey wheel which when the hitch is fully down it automatically clicks and locks onto the towball. The red stabiliser handle then just pushes and locks the internal friction pads on to the towball, job done. This doesn't happen on the 1300 model plus the stabilser locking mechanism is different as it only has pads either side and has been known for the dial to fail due to excess pressure on release. As Grampian91 has said above, the 3004 model dampens both horizontal (sway) and vertically (pitch) but the 1300 only dampens the sway.
Hope this explains more in detail regarding the difference between the two AL-KO stabilisers.

Thanks very much for the reply I will order the 3004 model now, it's more expensive but it sounds like it's worth paying more for. My caravan also weighs 1300kg it's a bailey pageant champagne 2000

When you exchange the hitch just follow the procedure as shown in the video on youtube (link in my first post) and you will have no problems. Don't be tempted to remove the back bolt without the dowel being in position first as that is securing the damper in the tube, that's the reason for the dowel. If you remove both securing bolts without the use of the dowel then the damper will shoot forward and extremely difficult to retract without dismantling the complete hitch assembly.
