Use Waze all the time. It will warn you of traffic jams and cameras and very importantly will send your speeds to the server to further improve the jam busting routes.
Presumably you know the local speed limits and camera positions.
Its too easy to get pinged! I got caught doing 65 in a 60 limit on the A5, I passed a pain in the **** bumbler along with 2 or 3 others!
Must have been a sneaky van camera as there is not a fixed one there!
Did the bad boys course which was actually very good.
9 points IMHO is poor driving, or someone who has not learned!
------------- DS-There's more to life than football!!!
I don't know about towing but I drive a long wheeled base transit van for a living and you got to stay 10mph under the speed limit (pain in the bum) and I use a tom tom you can set it to alert you providing it's up to date even when it's on silent I've used a cheaper sat nav to and you can set it the same but have you seen the NEW speed camera vans they look very simlar to the British gas vans if you see one that day there will be more think they only come out on certain days x

That makes no sense, it's either too easy to get pinged or not, it's just as easy the third time as the first.
Anyway, 15 days and no ticket, so I guess I must have been just under the limit not just over it. Phew. Anyway lesson learned, driving everywhere except shops with a tomtom now. So next time you get stuck in a thirty behind someone doing 27 with a tomtom, don't get frustrated, it might be me being very careful...
loads of apps for a mobile phone, that you can leave on to warn you , just leave the volume high, so you can hear it, also different sound for different types of cameras.

Thanks for the replies. I do have cruise control and I set it to 60 when pulling the van for the motorway, should have set it to 50 I suppose.
I can't set it every time the speed limit changes though. Was hoping someone might know a gadget that checked your speed and told you what the road limit was and screemed at you if you went over it, tomtom will do that but I'll have to plug it in every time I use the car (I pass the m1 varable 4-8 times a day).
I will brush up my Highway Code as I think misunderstanding the limits is one issue. I also think I start to slow down AT the speed signs instead of slow down to reach 60 at the 60 gang tree, which is where all the crafty cameras have got me.
Roll on google cars I say, will they pull caravans?
When you see a speed restriction sign coming up you should slowly reduce your speed so that you are at the right speed when you hit it. However, I think it is a little harsh for a speed camera to be positioned just inside the speed restriction. They normally give you a little time to adjust.
Yes I think it's harsh too, but everyone who gets a fine probably thinks that. They are special cameras though.

The point of today's post was just to say, even though I haven't got 9 points in the end, I've still be scared into driving under the limit always, which is presumably the point.
I wasn't expecting so much abuse. (Actually, Looks like the moderators have removed the harsher comments -thanks)
Webmaster note : Sorry, yes there's unfortunately sometimes one or two whose replies edge into being aggressive or rude , let's put it down to the difficulty of getting a point across by text alone , rather than in person . Now removed, and topic closed as requested.
Peter1474, I was speeding I never said I wasn't, I have not tried to justify myself, simply ask for help. I've never tried to condone speeding either. There are idiots on the road who do 60 through villages and deserve everything they get. I have 30 odd years no claims discount and am not a speed freak. Obviously I've not taken enough care a couple of times, maybe you are one of the few people who has never speeded ever, well done. The point of the post was to say I've learnt my lesson with the shock of realising 9 pts is frighteningly close to 12 and to a 6 month driving ban. There's no reason to be rude about it,
