That was the first avenue of exploration Grampian, but I double checked them all. I thought even the bumper might be not sitting straight making it look wonky.
Unfortunately removing the flange neck and using a spirit level reveals the flange isn't welded onto the neck straight.
I'm looking at a Witter now Birdman but there's some confusion with the seller regarding what I need to send back to get a refund. I think they're trying to request even the crush spacers, but they're somewhat stuck in the chassis now 🤔
I'm sure if this had been made properly, it would've been okay as it's essentially a carbon copy of the Witter bar.
Unfortunately though, their aftersales service borders on the satirical.
Apparently, if a part's defective or missing, no matter how small, it all has to go back to the manufacturer. Which, contrary to what the listing states, is not Pfjones.
I have opened a PayPal dispute. The problem is that I keep trying to tell them I can't get the crush washers out the chassis to return and the electrics are now wired in.
Then about a day later they reply with 'As you are not happy with the item please pack up the complete item in the original box'.
Then I explain that I've thrown the box away and the crush washers and electrics probably ain't going back, then a day later I'll just get the same message, or no message at all. This is after a week of no replies or a refusal to admit it's a problem. Annoyingly it's not just how long it takes to reply, but that the replies have no substance. It's like they don't read what you're writing and just copy/paste a standard reply.
I can escalate it to PayPal to make a decision but I don't know which way they'd go. If they're fine with me returning it in different packaging and minus the crush spacers and the electrics (I'd even pay for the electrics if necessary) then I will do. But I can't get confirmation that that would be okay. Just the generic reply above.
I can see me sending it back then them withholding a refund because it doesn't have the spacers.
Sorry tis o waffle on, but they've really wound me up.
As you have raised a case with PayPal they will have withdrawn the payment to PF until they reach a decision on the case. The payment is now in limbo until case resolved.
Have recently went through this with PayPal.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
The own brand towbar I ordered from P F Jones came in a plain box but inside it was a Witter tow bar anyway!!
May have just been lucky, but someone has to manufacture them for Jones.
A bit like Fossil making all the designer watches for fashion houses....
Yup, it's almost a direct copy of a Witter bar. Although Pfjones is listed as the manufacturer on the item description (which is why I was confused when they said they can't get parts from the manufacturer), it's actually made by an American company called Horizon Global.
They don't seem to have any contact details in the UK, so you can't get spares for them.
So it's worth bearing in mind, that if you do order one of their bars, if anything's faulty or missing no matter how small, you gotta send the whole thing back. They won't open another box to send you a spare.
Since it's a copy of a Witter I thought I'd try getting a spare from them, but they want £95 just for this bit.
Some time ago I had a towbar from them and after a short time the legal EC conformity plate fell of showing the permissible tow weight and nose weight. I got in touch for a new plate. Total waste of time finally gave up. To make myself legal fitted another towbar a reliable Witter.
I've just bought a Brink tow bar from PF Jones. Also for a Mondeo, though a mk4. Hope it fits properly. I've got a Witter here in front of me I took off my old Mk 3 hatchback Mondeo hoping it would fit a Mk 4 but it didn't. If anyone wants it I'm sure I can sort something out, though it will need new nuts and bolts.

MK4 the bumper needs to come off. Not a major job but why did they do that???
Just finished fitting to my MK4. Yes the bumper comes off because the tow bar fits into the end off the chassis which isn't possible with the bumper in place. The plastic outer bumper isn't attached to the steel inner bumper so not visible, nor is there any need to cut the bumper at all.
It's actually a far superior fitting to the MK3 as you sandwich one side of the chassis against the tow bar, rather than bolting right through the chassis which if the spacers are lost or damage can result in crushing the chassis, not does the MK4 design invite the bolts to rust up in the chassis.
The bumper is simply an impact zone which is rendered useless by a tow bar as the tow bar would prevent the bumper crushing anyway.
