Ok so been towing our caravan for 10 yrs now with no issues etc.

need to start looking for a new car to pull our van at 1300 Kgs MTPLM. its of no concern what the van is except to say the loaded weight. currently tow with a VX insignia sports tourer sri 2.0 ltr 170 BHP Auto.

So what next need it to be estate or MPV / SUV, because i like this format of vehicle.

What do you all suggest.

The car you have now should be fine towing 1300kg. If you're planning to change it anyway you can look at just about any similarly sized estate or small SUV.

We like the Passat estate so much we're on our third, if that's any help

Just watch the tow weights, some seemingly ideal cars can have rather low towing limits.

Any car with a kerb weight of 1,530 Kgs, (85% of this is 1,300 Kgs),should, theoretically be OK, but as Grampian91 pointed out, "some seemingly ideal cars can have rather low towing limits".

I wanted to buy a HONDA CRV, (a reasonably hefty beast), but the auto is limited to 1,500 Kgs, and Honda recommended a lower figure than that, but did not specify how low.

N.B. 85% of the kerb weight is a "recommended" weight to tow.

Answering RobandTina's queries would help people to offer suggestions.

hi all sorry new car no prob with license etc as passed 86.

I have been looking and come across a large amount of suitable cars with low towing weights.

Fully understand the 85% rule etc and originally towed with a ford focus 2.0 tdci estate 2006 model yr (KB 1429Kgs) and found this one of the best over the 10 yrs we have towed.

Its so frustrating. cars are getting much lighter whilst van heavier.
