Due to my job I have a company car ever year due to the amount of miles I travel. I have permission to have a tow bar fitted but I will have to put it down as a option extra when I order my nexts car in October. So it will be a factory fitted.
I generally order a VW Passat estate as it meets my family needs as well. So how do I go about a stabilizer as I am not allowed to fit anything to the car. It has to be done when I order my car so factory fitted.
Has anyone have any experience with VW trailer assist.
P.s. Never had a caravan before and I passed my driving test in 1993.
Most modern caravans use an Alko stabiliser hitch so there is nothing fitted to the car apart from the towbar. If the factory fit option is a swan neck towbar that will be fine, all you need to do is remove the paint from the ball and clean it to avoid contaminating the pads in the hitch. There are lots of threads on here about stabilisers and cleaning.
A friend of mine has a Passat estate fitted with an electric fold away towbar, perfect if your employer pays for yours, but expensive if you have to pay for one yourself every 12 months or so.
I was going to say how much will it affect your tax etc.
Not much option if they specify it must be factory fitted, unless your sneaky and fit one afterwards and hope they do not notice and then remove it before handing it back.
Stabiliser is not an issue. As mentioned a stabilised hitch head is fairly common and can be added to older caravans also. But you can also get clamps that fit swan neck style towbars which you can fit and remove in minutes.
With ot without trailer assist your unlikely to notice any difference. Unless you wildly swing the wheel from left to right at speed in which case it may reduce speed.
