Disappointing to think they may be moving production to Romania as I have always fitted Witter to my cars.
But, as a local I am more disappointed at those who will find themselves jobless.

Shame, they were a quality product, but there are other towbars out there.
I will vote with my wallet.

They will still be available, the final decision hasn't yet been made but it is highly likely production will be moved to Romania leaving 94 production workers in the UK looking for jobs. Will the reduced production costs result in a lower cost to the consumer or will this add to the profits of the group of companies which Witter belong to? Time will tell.

Witter haven't confirmed that their company are moving to Romania as yet, however, they have confirmed that they are farming out to countries where production costs will be lower. This is probably due to the rising costs of energy prices keep escalating in the UK and in reflection of this have to increase their product prices respectively which doesn't make them competitive. All towbars are fabricated steel components which incorporates the cutting out of various profiles by laser machines and then welded together which both consume huge amounts of electricity so their investment will be in focus of the cheapest energy costs to remain competitive in the towbar industry.
The worst part is that 94 British jobs will be lost so unless the government and energy companies address this issue then it could be a repetitive pattern in the UK in order for companies seeking lower manufacturing energy bills.

I wonder where the other major towbar companies make their product? Likes of Bosal, Westfalia etc are German but could well have moved production to cheaper labour markets.

There's no doubt the cost of utilities in Romania will be massively less than in the UK. However there will also be a great reduction in the payroll cost.
Average take home pay per month in Romania is £465 pm (I have assumed parity £ to Euro for ease)
Average take home pay per month in UK is £1800 approx (using ONS figs) These are of course only average figures both could be higher or lower but it seems to me there will still be a large payroll differential.
