Hello
I am on my second Hyundai Santa Fe.However after my latest escapade with it I am looking for an alternative.This has been prompted by the performance I have recently experienced when the electronic parking brake would not come off jammimg the rear wheels.With no manual override it needed to be dragged onto the tow truck (not a pretty sight).I suppose that I could just bemoan the fact that electronics go wrong from time to time but I have zero confidence in it now.it is currently at the dealers as it is only 18 months old with 17K on the clock.
Anyone had a similar experience ?(the dealer says he has never seen it happen before!)Also any recommendations for an alternative ,I tow a Coachman Vision 560/4 with 1520Kg MTPLM.

It's only a minor fault - I'd get it fixed and carry on. You could buy something with bigger problems.

A friend of mine had the same fault on her VW Passat

You could end up with a Discovery with same issues.
In fact most cars on the road today have epb.

Fix it and carry on.

I have to say I don't feel it is a minor fault.Fotunately it happened only half a mile from and 2 miles from the dealer and I wasn't towing.We are off to the Lakes on Tuesday so hopefully it will be fixed by then altho
As always with breakdowns it screwed up the whole day!
Still looking at alternatives.

Our Santa Fe has same,no problems with it but I prefer manual system!

Mazda CX 5 2.2 150 HP 2wd or 175 HP 4wd manual or auto (6speed) but they have an electric parking brake, will tow your coachman no problem

Ur CRV has a manual brake. Mind you it is 2007 and there is a new model since then. Don't know about that one.

Hi,

I had the same issue with our 2014 Santa Fe on a caravan trip to the Isle of White. Car was recovered to local Hyundai dealer. Next day the handbrake worked fine. dealer couldn't find an issue. That was 12 months ago. I've had one similar issue since but 5 minuets later it worked fine. It's only here happened when trying to reverse.

It's disconcerting that the dealer couldn't find a fault. Would be much happier if it was a hard fault and had been fixed. Please post the outcome.

If you're looking for a new car then I highly recommend the Skoda Kodiaq - look up reviews - it beats many of the popular 4x4 tow car options. It's a great car and tows well (we've had a sorento and Mazda 6 and CX7 in the past).

We have an ex demo top spec one - Edition 2.0 (190ps) auto diesel.
We average low 40s mpg
0-60 8s
Kerbweight 1798kg (we tow 1500kg MTPLM)
22 insurance group
7 seats (incl 2 folded in the big boot)
Retractable towbar

More bells and whistles than my petrol-head friends and family's merc and audis. Lots of petrol-heads (of which I am not one) have complimented us on the car / asked to sit in and been v impressed.

Not in the same bracket as a discovery re price, kerb weight and towing capacity
