Hi

I have just bought a 2013 Honda 2.2 diesel CRV to tow my Bailey Orion 530/6. I was towing my Lunar 462 in the summer with a 2.0 Petrol CRV. It struggled with the hills in Devon. I was recommended the diesel model as it has more torque and shouldn't have the problems towing up the hills

You wont have a problem with the 2.2 dtec we used to tow a 1500kg swift with our 2013 SE and it handled it just fine even on the steepest Spanish Motorways .
Excellent Towcar and I would have had another but the latest models are only a 1.6 dtec which after test driving it felt flat low down .
We migrated over to Kia and bought the latest Sportage 2.0crdi with the 187bhp engine .

We tow our caravan with a 14 plate Honda CRV 2.2 Dtec, and are very pleased with it, we bought it new to tow our 1340kg Elddis, but know it's capable of much more after hitching up to a friend's heavier caravan to move it off a very muddy pitch and onto the main road for them.

It is very stable in headwinds and manages to keep up to a good speed even when hill climbing on motorways. Likewise we believe that Honda made a mistake in dropping the 2.2 engined models in favour of the 1.6, and are now constantly pestering me to trade mine in as they have a 'Customer waiting to buy a CRV 2.2 Dtec' and they are in a position to offer me a very favourable deal.

Well yes, right.... favourable in their direction, so l firmly decline, my CRV is not for sale!

Had my 2.2 for 4 years and now tow a 1500kg unicorn, did 1400 miles on one trip, no problems.I get around 30mpg towing and am also reluctant to buy the newer 1.6 version.I will stay with Honda, very reliable.

I would also vouch for the fact that the 2.2 iDTEC is an excellent engine for towing, having towed approx. 10,000 miles with my Accord Tourer, averaging 32 mpg. I have owned it from new for nearly 4 years and it has been totally reliable. I previously owned a CRV cdti and that was also totally reliable until sold at 82,000 miles.

Staying with Honda may be difficult in future from a towing perspective, as the Accord is no longer imported and there will be no diesel option for the new CRV (2018), only a 2.0 litre petrol hybrid or 1.5 turbo petrol. I would be surprised if these engines were as capable towing as the old 2.2 diesels.

Got a 2007 CRV 2.2 diesel.
120,000 faultless miles. Towed to the South of France this summer - didn't notice the caravan was on the back.
Would love a newer car, but the bugger won't die!

I now have a 64 plate 2.2 iDtec and it tows our 2009 Bailey Pageant Burgundy S7 like a dream, stable and sure footed with good braking it returns 30 plus when towing. We had the previous 2.2 diesel on an 07 plate but decided to upgrade to the later model whilst the bigger engine diesel was still available. I feel sure your latest acquisition will prove to be a big success.

Dave.

Just sailed through its MOT and annual service with no faults. Got to keep it for another year, then.
