As per my previous post I'm thinking of living in a caravan due to break up of my relationship. She owns the tow car so I need a tow car. My brother has suggested hiring a van for times I need to tow. I'm worried about this as sites might not like turning up in a van. Also will my alko tow hitch fit a standard tow bar on a van.
The van or any other hired commercial with a towbar will probably have a standard flange ball not extended neck type for Alko. If it has swan neck towbar it will be ok. Some sites forbid vans & commercials as a way of barring groups of non tourists who may pay for a couple of nights & then refuse to move on until their work in the area is complete.
Forward planning is the way. Presumably you have sites in mind so speak to them & explain situation & they may accomodate.
If you tow Alko stabiliser hitch with standard fange ball you risk damaging nose of hitch at extreme articulation. This could happen if you drop into a pot hole. If you are ok with tools then it would not take long to change ball & change it back before returning vehicle. You would need 2foot breaker bar with correct size socket & large ring spanner to hold other end.

We used to weld the nuts on the rear, so swapping the ball may not be an option.
Dont forget the gross laden weights also, if you passed your test after 1997.
As well is two words!
