We are thinking about buying a 2011 Ford Kuga 2 ltr dci 2 wheel drive and would like any comments/ advice from anyone who has one of these.

We tow a Bailey pageant Burgundy with a Kia Sorrento 2.5 4wheel drive at the moment and have found it brilliant but it is getting tired.

We have done a match on what tow car and it appears to be a good match although not quite as good as the Sorrento.

You are buying an older diesel. All could be good for a few years, but buy with knowledge of potential problems as modern diesels have far more expensive consumable parts than older ones.

At 6 years old you need to ask if the DPF has had any work. If yes all good, but ask what work has been carried out. Cleaning or replacement?

If nothing has been done have money aside for a possible replacement. Budget £1,000.

Also ask about clutch replacement work. If none budget for another £1,000 for dual mass flywheel and clutch replacement.

Also check MOT history via www.gov.uk website. It can be a great source of information on how the car has been looked after over the years.

Thank you, the car has only done 30000 miles, I would hope that nothing on the car is very worn.
We have checked it's MOT history and it is very good with only tyres as advisories.

I was hoping someone will tell me if they have one and how it tows.

We have a 59 plate Kuga, it’s a 2 litre AWD, we did our homework when we bought it and went for the AWD as it had a higher towing capacity, (if I remember correctly the older version was heavier too) we tow a 2 berth Sterling MTPLM 1420kg and it copes very well indeed, no issues at all, we roughly get about 34mpg when towing, the power for pulling away etc is superb, we recently contemplated changing cars but were afraid that we may end up with a car that doesn’t tow as well so decided to stick with it.
Hope this helps a little, happy to answer any specific questions.

We used to have a 2010 2wd 2ltr Kuga. It was a fantastic towcar. Our van is quite light and it towed it extremely well. Only disappointment was it not having a full size spare.

we have a 59 plate 2wd kuga. tows ok,stable enough but find it twitchy even solo in high winds , guess being higher up doesn't help.get 30 mpg towing 1400 kg and around 40 solo on average.
find the boot a tad pokey.
don't think its as good all round as a Mondeo with same sort of engine.
best part of it is the driving position and ease of getting in and out for the wife with a dodgy back and hip.
looking at changing ours soon.

We have had our 2012 2wd Zetec since six months old, Bev & Jon's comments just about sum it up.Found Kuga to be a great towcar and a pleasure to drive solo with a peach of an engine.
Last year DPF sensor replaced and system cleaned (45K miles)and no further issues. Apart from replacing tyres/battery and brake pads nothing else has gone wrong (as yet)
Now only use Shell V Power Diesel or other premium fuel
Looking to change to another nearly new Kuga soon.

We have had our Kuga Titanium 2.0 Diesel 180bhp Auto for nearly two years now from new.

Three trips to France with the van, one trip covering over 2500 miles into Norther Spain, and I can honestly say it is the most relaxing towing experience I have ever had. I would not hesitate to get another, but I will probably go for the Edge next time.

The bigger the better........I detest small cars. 😀👍

I had a 2011 Kuga Titanium 2.0 AWD 163bhp, towed very well (32mpg}, nice comfortable car but it rocked and rolled a bit when solo. It was low mileage for year, but boy it was thirsty, 35 - 38 solo.
Now changed to VW Tiguan, 45 solo, not towed with it yet.
