Mine is fitted with a Brink removable tow bar, the electrics are dedicated not generic. Very neat installation , cannot see the towbar socket when ball has been removed, electrical socket swings up behind the bumper and is not visible when not in use, cost was £400 paid to the supplying dealer, fitting was done by an independent at dealer premises. Chose this option just in case there were any problems as the car was purchased new.

Nose weight limit is 88kg, but it takes this without noticeable sag, unlike a lot of cars I've had that were happier with less than the rating.

Engines are also rated in PS not bhp.

The 2017 car that the OP is interested is rated to tow 2100kg, up from the older version due to engine mods increasing low end torque up to 1500rpm.

2017 car is also heavier with a kerbweight of 1746kg for the 175ps AWD sport auto.

I tow 1636kg with mine with out effort.

Also have bypass electrics and a full size 19" wheel in the boot, but it does involve packing around the wheel with 50mm kingspan.

We own but don't tow (yet) a new CX-5, had it 2 months with no issues at all. It drives brilliantly and it makes me happy driving it. Surpasses the Honda CRV we had before in everything it does, other than the boot which is slightly smaller.

The new model doesn't have the Diesel in the Oil issue and it was largely irradicated from the facelifted 1st series. The engine gets hotter quicker and regens are much quicker, haven't a clue when mines doing it. Saying that, if you drive it like a petrol you will have issues just like any other diesel. It wasn't in the worlds top 3 cars this year for nothing!.

Just an update on this thread...

We went for the CX-5, but the lease company withdrew it from their list, as they said they'd 'ran out' of them when we came to choosing ours....

So have plumped for our second choice, which is the Ford Kuga...

Again, going for the 4WD auto version too.

Ordered it way back in Feb / March... Said it would be arriving here for the 20th April, so we booked up for the end of May B/H week...

Got an email shortly after saying the car will now be arriving (sometime from) mid JUNE!!!!!!!

Gutted! Had to cancel everything, so no early holiday this year I guess....

Bit late to the party with this one but I’ll add my bit. Had my CX5 diesel since last June ,latest model and absolutely love it. Had the previous model and that was just as good. I pull a new 2018 Coachman 545 VIP no problem at all. Just a small point when having the tow bar fitted make sure you ask for ‘full electrics’ as we had a bit of a dance when picking our new car up as the fridge wouldn’t work in the van when towing. It turns out that our dealer forgot to install the extra relay for this. Perfect now.
Cheers
Steve
