Hi.
My current mondeo 2.0 diesel estate is due for changing and now the clever government has added an extra 1% tax to diesel company cars I'm wondering whether to add a bit more to global warming and change to petrol, or is that a bad idea?
My current favourites are the new pug 3008 and the mazda 6. The 3008 has a 1.6 165hp turbo auto petrol, has anyone towed with this? I can save some tax with this (about £200/yr) but my brain and the torque figures are saying take the hit and go diesel, either 3008 2.0hdi or mazda 150hp diesel. The van is 1150kg laden, I only tow a few times a year most of the time is spent hammering the motorways. Any help appreciated!

Any fuel costs to yourself? The diesel will get something like an extra 15mpg with motorway use and it will tow better than the petrol. Extra 100ft/lbs of torque with the diesel.

I dont like the 3008, a personal thing. Not tried a Mazda 6 to compare it with though. So I may like that even less.

You need to do your own calculations based on the cost of Derv VS Petrol and the tax paid on both options. I do a lot of company miles and can not get away from the Derv option being the most cost efficient and environmentally less damaging. This is based on long motorway driving though.

Go hybrid and get best of both worlds. Cheaper bik and the electric creates more torque than any diesel. I have a 330e which can’t tow but many can.

Those further up the food chain at the firm. I work fo, get to choose the Mitsubishi Hybrid SUV, ticks all the box's regards dodging tax for the individual.

The Mitsbushi is no doubt a decent tow car.

Personally I consider Hybrids a waste of space, you either have to decide to stick with a fossil car, or go for an all out EV.

Of course for decent towing there is only one full EV to choose, that being the a Tesla Model "X".

A definite dream machine in more ways than one.

Tesla X is the car I would go for, but I guess I am lucky that I have £110K spare to buy one. No brainier for me. 😀👍

Francais..I'm in the same boat, my company lease limits stop me from getting a phev or hybrid that can tow. The mitsi outlander phev is awfully slow and thirsty once the battery has drained.
The whole government plan is flawed,a senior mgr at work has a bmw 2 series phev,he's struggling to get 50mpg but saves £200 per month in tax because its so eco friendly compared to his previous car that constantly achieved 50 plus mpg!

I was quite suprised, if not relieved that the Mk7 Golf that I drive, does not require AdBlue, probably down to the TDi engine size 1.6lt and the actual emissions spec.

Although I did notice no BluMotion badge or reference on this current model, all previous models since 2007 or so have been BlueMotion.

Maybe to regain the BlueMotion badge, AdBlue kit would need to introduced to the model, who knows.

BlueMotion did add a little kudos to the Golf, and I am suprised the VW would choose to loose it.

Not that the BlueMotion badge meant anything to me, although I did miss the six speed gear box, when they dropped that from the model that I get, that strangely happened when the BlueMotion badge was introduced.

I think to re generate the dpf filter either adblue is used or over fuelling to get the heat up. The mondeo uses the over fuelling method.

Just pee in the adblue tank if you run out....!

All it 'was', was refined pig urine. Now it's man made due to the demand, as I use 15 litres of the stuff A DAY!!!!!

Yep, GCMS, VW would have a field day with your AdBlue solution.

In fact you probably have to use a specific VW approved AdBlue product, to avoid them using the get out of jail warranty card.

I wonder how much they charge for a 1lt of AdBlue from your local VW dealership.

Diesel cars are most certainley on there way out, sales down by 40% against last year already.

I thinks it's going to be open season on drivers of diesel cars from now on.

Looks like it's back to petrol, for towing caravans going forward, and that's going to cost!

EV's for everyone else me thinks, and let all the petrol heads take the hit.
