I like my cars, no real favourite, although despite not having one I do like Skoda and am huge of pick ups. But I have to say the ASX is just not a great car, I had one on an extended road test in 2015 and it was the worse car I looked at, just so much I did not like about it. There are far better equivalents out there.

Sorry, but you did ask, and it is just my personal opinion, but much of the motoring press seems to agree.

You can do far better.

My Father has one, I borrowed it for a day and did 300/400 miles. It was brilliant on MPG and was really nippy on the motorway. The only slight niggle was the steering, the tyres seem to tram line. He has had it 3 and a half years and had no problems (only done 7500 mile though). Mitsubishi have had a few recalls and it is due to go in again, this time for a new wiper motor and hatchback struts. I thin this is a positive as which other manufacturers would do this and simply call it a 'serviceable item'.

My OH's ASX is booked in for the recall. They are snowed under with work for this, but to date they have not found one faulty vehicle, and have replaced no wiper motors or struts. I too, am glad they are taking this responsibly and never mind recalls.

Mitsubishi always get poor reviews, and many are biased very much against them. Look at this What Car review:
https://www.whatcar.com/mitsubishi/asx/estate/review/buying-owning/
They downrate their review for the 9000 mile service interval of the 2.2 diesel, which is now actually 12,500 miles, and comment about the fact it cannot match the 5 year warranty of its rivals when it actually has a 5 year warranty. They show the 2017 model, and talk about the ASX 5 introduced after the 5 year warranty change.

How can you trust any part of this review when they get even the simplest basic facts wrong.

I owned a 10 reg ASX 1.8 diesel 2WD from 3 years old to six years old doing 40000 in the process. I towed my caravan extensively round south west France. The following year I towed to Croatia and back through northern Italy and the Alps. We followed that up with a "Down Spain and back up Portugal" the following year.

The car was brilliant in every way, we only changed when we bought a bigger van so we bought a more powerful 2.2 diesel car.
