A bit late to the party I know but you might also want to consider a Ssangyong Rexton.
Huge towing capacity, great spec, very capable cars.
A low mileage, late model W should be affordable in your budget, you might have to travel to pick one up though.
I've just brought ours home, haven't towed with it yet but so far I'm well pleased. We're away next week for a month or so so I'll update this once I've had the caravan on the back.
Nice car, unfortunately still over the 85% ratio!
I thought a Rexton had a 3 tonne towing capacity.
I used to have one, and as the old saying goes, you would never have know the van was back there.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Yes, the Antara towing capacity is fine, it’s the kerb weight/MTPLM ratio that is a bit dodgy. It’s illegal to tow over 100% ratio and we would be 97% fully laden!

------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
