hi, we have just bought a abi jubilee viceroy, we will be towing it with a volvo v70 estate, will this be man enough to tow it

What is the MTPLM of the caravan? What is the kerbweight of the car? What is the max tow weight of the car? Come back with the figures and we can help you work it out, without the details we can only guess the suitability.

As Rob and Tina mentioned, we need models and dates to be precise but as an indication, and you should verify the data.
A 2005/2007 V70 has a towing capacity of 1800kg so using the 85% guidance that would give you a maximum safe towing weight of 1646kg.

A 1998 ABU Jubilee Viceroy has a mass in running order of 1053kg with a maximum allowable weight of 1300kg.

So assuming the data plucked from the web is correct, you have a viable unit.

The max weight of the caravan should be 85 per cent of the kerbweight not the max tow weight.The max tow weight may in some cases be lower than the 85 per cent figure and the max tow must never be exceeded. If the gross plated weights of car and caravan added together exceed 3500kg you need a B+E licence.

Sorry if this comes across as being a grumpy git
As a non caravaner, but I do tow a lot. We have a folding camper, motorcycle trailer and a general purpose trailer, I find it unbelievable that someone spends a not insubstantial amount of money on a caravan without researching wether their car is capable of pulling the caravan, both legally and practically.
We changed our car last summer, before we parted with the money , we researched the internet so much to make sure the new car would be capable of towing our camper ( it’s the heaviest of our 3 trailers) Even before I got the camper I was looking the towing specs for the car we had at the time. I didn’t just buy the camper and hope my car would tow it.
I really can’t get my head around some peoples lack of common sense. It makes me wonder how many caravans are being towed by vehicles where the owner hasn’t got a clue about towing weights etc.

We have an early 2000 (W reg) V70 diesel, and the maximum towing weight in our handbook says 1600kg, if that helps.
