We have replaced our car due to ours being stolen. Previous car had 13 pin swan neck tow bar fitted in 2014 when purchasing brand new car. Have now got same make/model but came with a flange tow bar with a grey point and black one. Caravan is 2014 manufacture has 13 pin plug. Have googled but thought i would ask all you knowledgable people for some help. Only bothered about car lights working not the caravan fridge or battery as we always use EHU any advice welcome thanks Sue
You need a towing adaptor lead but you have to make sure it's FROM twin electrics on the vehicle TO 13 pin on the caravan and not the other way round. You won't be able to use just the black towing socket for the lights as the leads come complete with black and grey cables anyway.
Thank you for such a quick reply that has confirmed what I looked up on google. Am I better to go for good quality lead or or they all the same? Any suggestions would be appreciated. SUE
This is the company I used when I needed a towing adaptor but if you give them a call first and explain what you need they will advise which of the adaptors you need. Beware buying on Ebay etc. as some people buy the fittings then assemble them to make a complete lead but they may not be waterproof so best to buy from an official trailer company that supplies quality parts.
Their phone number is 01636-815061.
As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
The adaptors work fine, but the extra length can cause the lead to hit the ground. You might need a trap or bungie cord to hold it clear.
We had a previous car wiring changed to 13 pin.
A local towbar fitting place did it, cost about £40.
