Hi All,
My 2013 SMax currently has the standard lights electrics on it. I want to put 12S electrics on the car. Can anyone tell me the route of the power wire to the battery from boot.
You may be able to get what you need from the rear fuse box as there are many unused slots depending on what equipment your car has. i.e. fuse FA5/10 could be your permanent positive and FB5/7 could be your ignition positive. Chances are your current standard lights use one of these unless you have a trailer module fitted.
One thing to consider is that your car is most likely to be only charging your battery to 12.2v to allow for recharging under deceleration. So if you go for a smart charge relay it will cycle if your caravan battery is fully charged until the caravan battery comes down to 12.2v (as it will make the car stop the smart alternator as when connected it looks like the car battery is charged more than 12.2v). Likewise if it is not fully charged it will only charge it up to 12.2v (around 80%). I used to disconnect the caravan battery when travelling to get round this but now I am going to install a Sterling Power wildside unit that will sort this out and make sure the fridge works properly.
The rear fuse box has a spare space for the feed but you need the terminal, this is only supplied with the dedicated loom kit. You could splice into the rear fuse box feed with a 15a fuse in line. No need to bring a feed from the battery in the front there is already one in the boot LHS.
