What is the MTPLM of your caravan? What is the kerbweight of the proposed new car? What is the max tow weight of the new car? We need more information to give any helpful advice so come back with the figures and we can help decipher them for you.

That's a 90% match so ok if you are experienced at towing. How powerful is that 1.6 diesel? We towed a similar weight with a 1.6 diesel Mokka with 136bhp engine and it was fine, however there are only two of us and if you had loads of luggage and bikes etc it might have be different. It may be worth looking on owners forums to see if anyone has any practical experience of that combination.

Hi,
Did you get the figure from a brochure or the V5?
In the 2016 brochure, my petrol X-trail has a kerb weight of 1430-1570Kg depending on trim, however the V5 states 1645Kg with GVW of 2210Kg.
The same brochure says 1500-1550kg for the diesel 2WD, I expect that it may be heavier on the V5 so worth checking if this is available, or ask to check if looking at one at a dealer.
The 1.6 diesel drives very smoothly and makes 320Nm of torque so should be fine towing your caravan. It's always nice to have a bit more power, but today's 1.6 has as much torque as the 2.0 150hp in the generation then ended in 2012.
I do far too many short journeys for a diesel though hence having the petrol version.
If you were looking at the automatics, they have a lower towing limit of 1500Kg and there have been reports of issues with the gearboxes once they get above 30k.
