Hi there,

I've got a Clio 1.5 diesel & a Bailey Ranger.
I've towed for years (not with the Clio) and I've checked the weights & stuff but I can't remember which figures are the ones that actually matter (legally)
The Clio stats are:

Kerb weight: 1294 Kg
85%: 1099.9 Kg
Towing Capacity: 1200 Kg

And the caravan stats are:

MIRO: 1053 kgs
MTPLM: 1277 kgs

The MIRO is less than the 85% but the MTPLM is more than the Capacity & I can't remember which one I need to follow.

Any help would be brill.

Max you are legally allowed to tow with the Clio is 1200 based on your figures.

but its the MTPLM that you need and that is higher than the legal limit of your car. Therefore you cannot tow the ranger with that car
Although that's not strictly true...the legal limit is defined by the Gross train weight. The gross train weight is the weight of the fully-loaded car plus fully-loaded trailer and must not be exceeded.

check the V5 or the plate in the car it might have a different amount

I was just having a poke about and saw it's the MPTLM that's important, I will check the V5 & plate though, I hadn't thought of that just in case. Bit of a shame really it's served me well that little car & we've been through a lot
