If you do a search on this forum there are quite a few discussions on the Skoda. I seem to remember that the kerbweights were a bit lower than I had expected.
The 150bhp diesel has won it's class in the Practical Caravan towcar awards this year which must count for something.
I previously had a Mk II Superb 170 DSG diesel which towed nicely as long as there was some weight in the boot and I now have a Mk III 280 4x4 petrol which is even better. Caravan is 1350 MTPLM which is about 85% match for both as the newer models are lighter. The 4x4 drivetrain makes up the weight.
How does it compare, if you choose similar spec engines say both 2L both around 140bhp then there will be very little difference between the way they tow.
I find you get a lot more for your money with a Mondeo.
I don’t own either, and have had two Ford Mondeo’s, great cars. But you get far more for your money with the Skoda Superb, it is as its name describes.........
Superb
Never towed with either but if both the Ford Mondeo and the Skoda Superb were sat next to each other in a showroom I would definitely choose the Superb for it's elite style and class. They say never judge a book by it's cover but it's what the manufacturers aim to do which is promote the attraction of beauty in a Man's world.
We're on our third VW Passat (2015 2.0 TDI 150bhp) which is mechanically identical to the Skoda Superb and which is also a 3-times winner of the Practical Caravan tow car award (beaten by the Superb after its launch). The reason they gave the award to the Skoda and not the VW was because it gives a just about identical towing performance (unsurprisingly), but is about a grand cheaper to buy new in a similar spec.
That's fine, but what they don't seem to have noticed is that it's cheaper because it isn't as nice. Some of the plastics are that bit nastier, the seats are that bit less comfortable and it isn't as well soundproofed (which is why it's lighter). You pays your money ...
I haven't towed with a Mondeo but would expect that to give very similar performance, so it's all down to your own preference.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Do you use an auto transmission? My own strong view is that a torque converter gives much better towing flexibility than a DSG or clutch-based transmission.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.

I have towed 1000s of miles with DSG Gearbox, I wouldn’t worry about that one.

Thanks for letting me know. I have had. 2 Passats followed for the last 18 months a skoda Superb. I missed the difference in quality I must try harder.
If it were my choice I would buy the Ford, im not a VAG lover at all. I have had many cars over the years one of which was a Passat I think it was probably the worse car ive ever owned
