The whole thread is daft. If you fill up at a specific filling station & the problem as described occurs then it will be due to contamination of storage tank at that filling station not due to the fuel which as pointed out several times is standard UK retail fuel spec.

The resulting damage will obviously not be covered under any vehicle warranty & your claim is with the filling station.

Anyway I thought I’d post this to point out that the fuel we put in our cars isn’t always what we think it is and can cause some serious damage to our engines,

Total complete and utter rubbish!

If as you say fuel bought at certain retailers was not to specification then there would be press reports about it, but guess what, there haven't been any countrywide for ages, and certainly nothing reported in your area.

You also obviously do not realise that fuel quality is regularly tested by Ministry and Council officials, both at point of production, point of distrubution and at point of sale. Any discrepancy would be reported, but again, none has been.

Perhaps before you make incorrect comments about these matters you should do some research.

And if you don't pay for the repairs why are you making such a brew-ha about it all?

Llandavies you say their is a load of measures in place to check fuel so it can’t happen, then you say their has been no reported cases for a ages, well by that statement all the measures have clearly failed in the past.
If you actually google the issue you will find cases in the uk only a couple of months ago.

As for the post what’s wrong with posting a potential issue and pointing it out to others ? You never know someone just might be as unfortunate as my work colleagues,
if as you say you’d know what to do and say in this instance why not share it with others so it could help them in the future.

I don’t suppose you saw gcsm post with his truck broke down the fault was contaminated fuel

As already said this is going through insurance so Audi have to prove to them that all the cost is down to contaminated fuel, let’s face it if they could get out of paying a bill they will.

I use shell, but all the branded fuel around here is only 1p a litre more than supermarket diesel so it's only 70p more to fill up,I've seen the discussions over the years,
So ì play safe and use branded

Shell don’t make Petrol, they sold off their refineries a couple of years ago. Where do you think the supermarkets get their fuel from? Same place as the branded fuel come from.
