not sure if this has been brought up [pointers welcomed if it has, ]towing to Devon today with the cover on the van get the impression my fuel consumption was up, this is the first time we have towed the van with it on [came with the van] has any body thought the same or even knows that this is so? more friction against the cover than the smooth finish on the van?

after having two friends damage front windows will always tow with a cover on more expensive to change a window. I never noticed any difference re fuel consumption because of it.
Always have front cover on. MPG 29 or there abouts. Speed 55 +/-. If anything the front cover makes the front of the van smoother therefore more areo dynamic (honest)
went to retrieve the van today from Cheddar to Devon and back [80 miles ew] going - car only 38.8 mpg- [Kia Sportage 2.0] - return with van and cover 38.6 mpg avge 55-60 mph A38 and M5 virtually all the way, so not that much of a difference .... but back in time for the 6-1

Thats good mpg!
Our Santa Fe showed 25 towing to our current site in Loire area, mainly autoroute and fair bit on main roads. It was hot so aircon was on max speed 60mph. We have seen over 30mpg on a tow where we have not exceeded 50mph.
We have been towing since 80s and never had any front damage, the covers seem to be more popular.
We do have a lot of bug splats which can be hard work to remove!
I wax the van and polish the windows with vu plex perspex polish,it does make them easier to clean.
