We need to change our towing car - we tow a Luna Arriva (2010 Model) which is very light - MTPLM 980 kg.

We have looked at both the Vauxhall Mokka or the Peugeot 2008 but do not want to get a Diesel car. Does anyone tow with a Petrol version of these cars and if so which model.

TIA

Not much choice with the Mokka if you avoid the diesel, a gutless 1.6 petrol or a turbocharged 1.4 petrol.

Similar with the 2008, 1.6 petrol which will lack torque and an even smaller 1.2 petrol.

I would choose the diesel version.

I've towed with a diesel Mokka. The only problem with it was a pitching motion at slow speed which sorted itself out as the speed increased. This pitching motion was mentioned in the tow car of the year tests so it wasn't just our outfit. I was told that the turbo petrol car was a good tow car but for financial reasons I went with the diesel version.

I would check the noseweight limit on the 2008 as most of the small Peugeots seem to have low noseweights, sometimes around 50kg.

Unless you really need the slightly higher ride height, I wouldn't touch either of these cars.

For all their appearance of robustness, they are based on small hatchbacks (Vauxhall Corsa and Peugeot 208) and are therefore really not designed to tow heavy weights or indeed do anything particularly taxing.

Look instead at a conventional medium sized car (VW Golf, Ford Focus, Skoda Octavia etc) and you'll get something that's cheaper to run and possibly also to buy, find a wider choice second-hand (if that's the plan) and be able to choose from a wider range of engines.
