If you place the adapter cable directly over the top of hitch it saves it dragging on the floor thus not needing a bungee cord to suspend the adapter cable. However, if the 13 pin socket is on the car and the twin 7 pin plugs on the caravan then the adapter shown in the link below is a much better alternative as there are no trailing cables to worry about. I changed to the one shown in the link and kept the long cable adapter as a back up if ever needed

We use one of these,they are very neat. Just remember to remove it after use or it could go walkies
