Are there any Gobur Owners out there who can clarify the nose weight of this caravan, please? I couldn't see details on the caravan plate (MIRO 832Kgs MTPLM 1050Kgs) - my towcar is a Peugeot 30008HDi 115bhp Active with a maximum braked towing weight of 1090Kgs but the maximum permitted nose weight is only 70Kgs. The 5%-7% rough guide says 53Kgs to 74Kgs - will I need to be shunting heavy items behind the axle and/or leaving the front box empty? Hard information would be very reassuring!

firstly you do not put any items behind the axle! its not safe.

right you need to look in your cars handbook and find the max towball weight, suspect its 70kgs if so then check the tow hitch on the caravan for that's max weight, should be somewhere on the tow hitch and load with heavy items over the axle, only moving things forwards to achieve the correct max weight not exceeding either your car or the caravans allowed limits

The noseweight depends on how you load the caravan but you must not exceed the car's limit. There is lots of advice on safe loading practice, have a look at the information on the main clubs' websites.

In practice 70 kg should be easy to comply with with such a lightweight caravan and should give you a stable tow.

I was hoping that there would be a Gobur Owner/ex-Owner on the Forum who had either done the nose weight check or who could give the information from their Owner's Manual or from the caravan plate. I am a very cautious individual and I don't want my caravan debut to start with an illegality or a potential problem/danger!

I've seen a 'Adjust your Nose Weight' video that started with a 110Kgs nose weight and then moved kit to car and then to the caravan axle floorspace to reduce the nose weight to about 75Kgs but I wondered how easy this level of adjustment was. I'd rather find out that I have a problem now, rather than waiting until after the van has been delivered!

If there is a noseweight quoted in the manual it will be an ex-works weight, you are never going to tow the caravan totally empty so this weight has no bearing on the actual noseweight when you are towing.

Everybody carries different equipment and loads differently so the only way to know the correct noseweight is to load the caravan as if you are going away and then check the noseweight. You can then adjust the loading if neccessary following the usual guidelines of loading close to the axle.

There's just the 2 of us (although we do seem to take a lot of kit - 'just in case'), so I can appreciate the difficulty of printing an accurate/cast iron nose weight figure. The 7% rough guide pushes me just over the towbar maximum by about 5%, so I'll need to move kit around to reduce that excess. I clearly have a lot to learn about caravanning ...

Steve, it depends on how YOU load the caravan. Nobody can guess how YOU will load the caravan and what the noseweight might be. Just load it up and check the noseweight, if neccessary adjust the loading by moving stuff. There is nothing in writing to say what the noseweight will be when you are towing.

You may find that once loaded your noseweight is well under your 70kg limit and you need to move stuff forward to raise the weight. It is better to be as near the 70kg limit as possible without going over it.

Thanks for the continuing good advice, Rob. We haven't bought the van yet (just paid a deposit), so, if there was an insurmountable problem re nose weight, I could kiss the deposit goodbye rather than be left with a caravan I could not use. Knowing that the distribution of payload can be adjusted legitimately (and safely) by a combination of distribution of items between car and van and then by sensible adjustments to stuff loaded around the axle area helps enormously.

The Gobur folds down from full height to a 1.40 metre high trailer and the wardrobe, kitchen unit, both side walls and caravan roof operate on gas struts, whilst all the wall cupboards are unclipped from their hanging rails and sit on the caravan floor for travelling. ALmost everything is stowed at a very low level along the length of the van - there's just 2 small clear spots on the floor so that you can stand with legs apart, ready to push the wall panels into place with the gas struts when opening the caravan up. There's a 1:07 long video showing the Gobur MD setting up the caravan on the goburcaravans.co.uk Home Page - Richard claims the set up is quicker than boiling an egg (but he has set the vans up quite often!)

marchie1053 we have a Gobur carousel and our nose weight when we take the full awning is around about 50 kg, you are limited to what you can take as the cupboards stand on the floor between the beds, we carry things under the beds and in the cupboards, a table top oven, tv and ground sheets also between the wardrobe and beds, awning on top of the sink and cooker boots and hoses on the toilet floor and cable reel inside the door. I am away at the moment with poor WiFi until Saturday but will gladly answer any questions etc you may have from Sunday, they are a fantastic bit of kit, we have a Vauxhall Antara and you do not know the caravan is on the back. I can put ours up on my own in about 10 minutes obviously elec and water is extra time and the awning takes a while but the caravan is a piece of cake, enjoy it.

Thank you so much for the response, kp, that is hugely reassuring! I have spoken to Richard at Gobur this morning and he has used 3 different nose weight gauges that gave readings of 52-54Kgs ex-works and he is confident that our proposed kit carrying will produce a loaded nose weight within the 60-62Kgs range without having to be too concerned about positioning stuff to the last centimetre.

We are upgrading from our Raclet Solena Trailer Tent so your 'limited by what you can take' is our 'we will have lots of kit and caboodle, including comfy seats for an afternoon snooze'! I like the 'fantastic bit of kit' description - it's what we're hoping our Gobur will be. Enjoy your stay!

marchie1053 gladthat you feel reassured, we went from tent to a Pennine fiesta to a Pennine Pullman and then to our present Gobur, all very enjoyable in their own right, so have always only taken what we need, we only carry one propane gas bottle unless it is nearly empty, I think most of the weight in the front box are 2 wheel ramps/ levellers and rock pegs, enjoy your caravan and don’t be afraid to ring Gobur if you have any concerns, Richard and his staff are very knowledgeable and more than willing to help.
