have swift challenger 510 tow with Renault traffic long wheelbase ..fabulous but now I,m getting on a bit and would like to reduce size .know nothing about cars and don't have a huge budget tried looking up on internet all gobbly gook to me SO can any one suggest a good estate car that will tow safely

You need to know the MTPLM of the caravan before you can work out a suitable match. Ideally you need a car where the MTPLM of the caravan does not exceed 85% of the kerbweight.

Come back with the weight and we may be able to offer some suggestions. We also need to know if you want petrol or diesel, manual or automatic and an idea of your budget.

Vehicle Insurance Company`s also ask if vehicles have any modifications, so may well be worth checking this out with your Insurance Co.

Your caravan weight would be needed to give accurate advice, I would guess its around 1500kg mtplm so unladen is probably about 1250kg. You should have a wide choice available you haven't said what your budget is other than its not huge. So assuming its £4000 I would suggest Citroen C5 estate, not the 1.6 ltr though get the 2.0ltr or the 2.2ltr and tow limits are upto 1800kg depending on model some have self levelling suspension so make for good tow cars they have a Ford engine so are reliable loads of toys and plenty of space. The 85% rule is just a guide depending on your experience.
