I still think you could face a few problems with a fairly heavy car, Seven seats laden, and only a 130bhp Engine.
A Lot of manufactureres calculations are done under test conditions, often not fully laden, and no way indicate the reality of Towing a heavy Caravan up Steep gradients, doing Hill starts at Traffic lights with the smell of burning Clutch or worse still loose gravel on the road from wear and tear of the surface.
You cannot honestly compair the Landrover Discovery to your Xtrail, two completely different set ups and features entirely, take a look and try compairing them with the same caravan hitched up on the Whattowcar.com website and the Disco will win hands down.
Stability and long motorway gradients, headwinds, and Crosswinds are also factors to consider. The 2.2 Xtrail would have been a better option, but l fully understand your situation, hence the my previous advice to keep the Caravan weight as light as possible.
The other factor is that often on comparitive models of the same veichle, the 7 seater version will have a much lower towing capacity than its 5 seater twin brother, that was certainly the case for my Daughters 7 seat Zafira, hence she traded it in and bought a new Toyota 2.0 so that she could tow my caravan if ever she wanted to borrow it, the Zafira 7 seat had a very low towing capacity indeed.
Good Luck with your search, but please do not let your heart rule you head with the exitement of owning your first Caravan, safety must come first, take your time, and dont just buy the first caravan you like the look of, simply because the figures appeared to match up on paper.
The reality of owning it, as part of your outfit can be
very different indeed once you are out on the open road, and a costly mistake to put right, l admit fully to making that mistake in the past myself, it certainly takes the pleasure out of the Hobby to say the least.
