Picked up a brochure recently from Road Hero who make and supply space saver wheels, maybe cannot be used on some cars when towing but maybe can on some others. They cover many cars and SUVs. No prices shown in brochure. According to website they have dealers/retailers all over the uk

Also breakers yards are good places to pick these up - often unused from cars being dismantled.

You may be able to source a replacement full sized wheel which would be even better if you have a puncture while towing. I found a replacement full sized alloy in good condition on ebay for the same price as a new Honda space saver. The problem is often whether there is anywhere in the car to store it. My Accord Tourer (estate) has a well which can take a full sized spare while the saloon version does not.

You may also need to buy a suitable jack and wheel brace as these are frequently no longer supplied as standard.

On ebay I paid about £40 for a space saver wheel/ jack/ wheel brace, including delivery.

On my Mk4 Honda CR-V the inboard housing where the space saver wheel is mounted wasn't deep enough for the full sized wheel & tyre I bought from Preloved. I therefore modified the ply 'trap door' by adding 2 inch wooden battens around the supporting edge and moving the front catch onto the batten instead of the ply cover and it works a treat. I also had to change the wheel retaining screw as the original wasn't long enough for the full sized wheel.

I was glad that I had a full sized spare when we got a puncture in France last summer whilst towing our van down to the vendee.

Our Hyundai Santa Fe has a full size wheel, but I notice the current model, and Kia equivalent have space savers!
Must be cost saving or there is something under the rear taking extra space!
