Have a Volkswagen Golf estate, kerbweight is 1475kg

Looking at a light twin axle caravan which is 1205kg, 1450kg laden that would never be loaded up to max capacity anyway.

I have towed a single axle weighing 1400kg before absolutely fine.

What are the opinions on this

Skill and experience wise I think Im very well up to it as i often drive articulated lorries which are never under 26 tonne

I doubt your going to find a twin axle of that weight, most only start at 1500kgs upwards,

In 2002 Lunar did a twin axle at the weight you are looking for,think it was a Solar 615, but from then onwards twin axle vans only tended to be heavier

If you are in the Caravan Club you can do an outfit check on line .Atfirst sight the weights look ok for an experienced tower but better to check if you can with a specific outfit.

You cannot legally tow more than the car's maximum towing limit, which you will need to check the V5 for.

Provided that the towing limit allows this, then much will depend on what engine your Golf has with respect to performance. My gut reaction is that if it's a reasonably powerful 2 litre diesel (140/150bhp) you should be ok but anything less and you'll probably be struggling.

You'll almost certainly need a Category B+E licence extension if you have a post-1997 licence.

I’ve got a c+e but my partner will also be towing it and she only has a b, still well under 3.5tonne.

Cars gtw is 3420kg
1970kg mam

no is it a 1998 or 2019? is it 1.4 petrol or 2.2 diesel? that is all we need to know
