Hi, looking for some advice...we presently tow with a peugeot 5008 , 12 plate 1600 HDI active. We have a Pennine Quartz 2+2 and tow easily. We are now considering replacing this with the Pennine pathfinder (maybe a Quartz 6 but am unsure because of the extra weight. At the caravan and camping show we were given a figure of 1300 towing capacity which he said had been de regulated? Not sure what that means... Anyone know whether the pathfinder would be comfortably within our limit? My husband is hgv driver so no worries over actual towing abilities. Thanks

according to parkers your car has a braked towing limit of 900kg, you would be best looking on the vin plate of your car which will give you the exact figures but I suspect that the 1300kgs is well and truly out of range for you

We tow a Pullman with a Peugeot 3800 1600 tdi Sport with no problems and previously towed a Swift Silhouette which was heavier than your Pathfinder. We took this outfit over to the Netherlands and all over the UK. The towing limit according to our handbook is 1300kg even though this is lower than the kerbweight.

Means little when the suspension or drivetrain cannot cope when the car is fully loaded and then you add a trailer.

Plenty of cars with soft suspension or longer rear overhangs may make good towcars with the kerbweight and power. But when the rear suspension is low with a loaded car and you stick another 70kg on it then it maybe too close to the bumpstops.

Or to make teh car lighter due to all the safety kit they have to fit they reduce the amount of coolant and oil to save weight. So the extra load from towing quickly causes extra heat, engine and gearbox runs too hot.

A lot of variables in the towing limit not just the kerbweight.
