Hi

Been driving and owning a Land Rover in one form or another for well over 30 years.
I love them, be ready to use your spanners, and a deep wallet at times, but that's with all cars.

Never owned a Free lander couple mates have both loved them, so it's in your hands what to have.

Good Luck..

Cheers

I have a Freelander2 since new in 2014 so just coming up to five years old now and properly serviced once a year - can't speak for automatics as mine is 2.2 litre manual - but it has been the most comfortable, reliable, trouble free car I have ever had.

Whilst I cannot comment on the Freelander 2 long term, I can echo what other people say about Land Rovers in general.

I had a Disco3 for almost three years and it cost me a fortune in maintenance and servicing. I *did* choose to get things done at the franchise dealers, but that was because I thought that they would be helpful if something major went wrong.

To cut a long story short, the turbo went on my Disco3 (whilst it was in for a service!) and the dealer had it for 6 weeks whilst they tried to fix it. I had a FL2 whilst they had my Disco and I can honestly say it was cack.

Front parking sensors only worked when they wanted to. (Water ingress apparently)

The driver's door refused to lock at one point (I had the same problem on my Disco as well)

The auto box wanted to change gear (usually down) at strange times (not just my driving style I promise).

Once I got my Disco back, I sold it pretty much straight away and vowed I wouldn't have another LR car. That was 7 years ago and I have stuck with VW and Seat since and had no such trouble.

You would think half the world has had a Freelander 2, but I think not. So the message from a current owner is, My FL 2 was new to me 2012, 2.2 Manual XS, good bits other than servicing for the first five years no problems last twelve month’s new haldex clutch £2 K new suspension bushes £800, brakes £500, but when you consider 60000 miles of trouble free motoring it’s not bad.
If I could buy a new one I would, if you can find a low mileage with good service history and a haldex service go for it. Haldex very important check out on the net.
