Hi fellow caravaneers

I’m soon to be towing to Whitby and felt I ought to avoid staxton hill any suggestions for the best route? Looking at the atlas the coast road from Beverley looks the most straightforward but I bow to your superior knowledge

Thanks a lot

we tow to Whitby 2or3 times a year we have used both routes but use coast road as we do not like towing up or down staxton hill the coast road has a few bad areas but we think they are better than staxton also better than over the moors and down blue bank into Whitby .the coast road is not the shortest but that is the one we use

Living in Barton, next to the Humber Bridge, I have towed to both Whitby and Scarborough. Personally I would avoid the coast road as it much longer than other routes and can be very slow in holiday times because of traffic going to Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough.

My preferred route for Whitby is as follows;

Humber Bridge- Beverley by-pass (west)-B1248-Bainton-Wetwang-Malton- A169 Pickering- Whitby.

Pickering is narrow, but the rest of the route is fine, and usually reasonably quiet. There are some steep sections, but these are no worse than those on the Scarborough to Whitby road.
