At the stage of connecting towbar electrics to Peugeot van which has canbus wiring. Is it best to strip the insulation off the canbus wiring , then solder and heat shrink rather than cutting the canbus wiring. Would cutting the canbus wiring create any issues. I wouldn't think there is any power to the wiring to the rear clusters with ignition off so can it create issues with the ecu if the wiring is cut then jointed back in with the tow bar electrics. Any help or advice much appreciated
The CAN-BUS wiring is connected to the vehicles electronic circuit so it's obvious it's going to interfere with the electronics if you cut into the existing CAN-BUS wiring. CAN stands for Computer Area Network and the BUS means it has a relay system that delivers messages in milliseconds which is the reason why the towbar electrics have to be programmed into the circuitry. My advice is to get the towbar electrics fitted by a professional because that way you get a receipt of proof if anything does go wrong.

There was no reprogramming needed for my car when the towbar electric were fitted. Some vehicles need reprogramming, others don't.
Fitted switching relays on the 12n and 12s connection with separate fused 12v feeds off the battery so the towbar wiring isn't directly into the vehicle wiring just taking signals from it to switch the relays. I am thinking that stripping the wires and soldering with a gas heated tip soldering iron rather than electric shouldn't cause any issues.
All done and no issues, all the wiring in the rear light clusters was separate rather than fog/tail or brake/tail sharing a wire which made it very straightforward.
I did do a week of homework on the internet and also on here before attempting it though
