I've just been reading that it is a legal requirement to have towing mirrors if the trailer is wider than the car. We will definitely be buying some as the numbers are so close and it seems sensible but, out of interest, does the width include the wing mirrors of the car?
Our newly purchased folding camper is 1.84m wide, our car is 1.79m wide but with the wing mirrors the width is 2.0m.
Includes the mirrors in the width of the car. Can you see down the two sides of the trailer in the door mirrors. If you can you don't need extra towing mirrors.
The problem is that you need to be able to see the side of the trailer even when it is at an angle to the car.
If you can't see the edge of the caravan /trailer then reversing becomes somewhat difficult!

Many caravanners treat towing mirrors as something that they can do without but the law says different. There is a legal requirement for you to have mirrors that allow you to see clearly an area that is 4 metres wide from the side of your caravan at a distance 20 metres behind the driver.
I have the Milemco Aeros but find that although I adjust them while going slow in the cul de sac, they bend down when on the motorway at 60. Everything is tight.
This makes them difficult to use so I tend to monitor what is behind on every bend.

Try tightening up the screw that secures the mirror housing to the round bar. The mirror pivots on a ball allowing to position the towing mirror as required but if the screw is slighty loose it will tilt the mirror housing at speed. If you undo the screw the mirror housing will come off allowing to replace it if the glass ever cracks or breaks.
I've just purchased a pair of Milenco Falcon mirrors. Will be using them for the first time this weekend. They fit my odd shaped mirrors & give a more square larger towing mirror. My local caravan dealer has a few to try & these seemed to fit good and sturdy and not badly priced either. Will report back.

Work great with good security & hardly any vibration.

I find exactly the same thing happens with my Aeros, to overcome it, I set them slightly 'high' when stationary, then they deflect into the correct position when moving. Experience teaches you how much you need to set them high.
Don't think it has anything to do with them not being tight (mine certainly are), it's the moving air forces deflecting them and/or the car mirrors.
Must admit to never having had an issue with the Aeros.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
hi all
If you have an 'adequate' view behind mirrors are not necessarily required...
As a ADI trainer preparing candidates for car and trailer, B+E, test I use them to see behind the vehicle
