Do you need to use the grey plug at all. It only runs the fridge and charges the leisure battery while towing.
If you can cool the fridge at home the night before it will stay cool for 4 hours or more. Just plug it in at home or run it on gas overnight.
The battery charging doesn't do a lot on a short journey. Again if you can plug it in at home or use EHU on site that will do it.
It will keep things simple and cost nothing.

Personally I would just leave things as they are. They work perfectly well I presume? We are in exactly the same position, with a trailer as well as a caravan. Our car is fitted with just a 7 pin 12N socket which does for both the caravan and the trailer. The caravan has a 12S plug, but we simply don't use it. We cool our fridge and charge our battery before we go, and they are both ready to use when we get on site. Then we plug into EHU.
