I've been towing our twin axle luna quasar(1205kg mro - 1450 kg mtpla) for a few years now with our volvo xc90,
now its time to change our motor as its nearly ten years old and my better half needs something newer and more practical for work.
Question is does anyone have any experiance of a similer size twin axle van towed by a saloon car?
the car she really would like is 2016 jaguar xe
a quick searce reavales the max tow weight at 1800kg
and Kerb weight: 1,611 to 1,690 kg
thank you
Gareth
Had a look on this website thanks
The only ? Is a caution sign on tow bar limit it say is a bit low - 5
What does this mean ?? Is it legal - dangerous etc etc ??
Oh and 2 stars on weight ratio
Which I’m not over concerned about as an hgv driver and realistically it’s only getting towed three four times a year
Furthest being a 600 mile round trip to Cornwall.
to have a stable tow its recommended to have a hitch weight which is between 5-7% of the actual weight of the caravan, however, the car will have a max towball weight (normally 75kgs) and the caravan hitch will have a max of 100kgs.
so to tow your caravan at its most stable weight you would be looking for 90kgs give or take a bit either way, clearly that exceeds the cars max, so you load the caravan not to exceed the cars max of 75kgs (or whatever that figure actually is)
I’ve towed a heavier twin axle with an Audi A4 in the past. No issues and we were towing at 100% which in reality is never actually 100% once you’ve loaded the bikes on the roof, boot full and family in car.
Your twin is very light, most singles weigh similar and you’ll have the benefit of additional stability from having 4 wheels on the tarmac.
