Anyone had any experience of towing with a self generating Hybrid? They all seem to have very little towing capabilities but someone (jaguar landrover technician) told me the manufactureres have to show poor towing limits to keep the emmisions / tax low when technically they are more than capable of towing thier own weight. (which for many is heavier than the conventional version due to the weight of the batteries)

Unlikely. They are type approved in standard road trim and a trailer would not be taken into the equation unless it comes with one as standard.

Like spare wheels, add a spare wheel at production and it may be classed as higher emissions.
Add a towbar and it doesnt matter if you tow a camping trailer or caravan the emissions will be based on any negative impact of the towbar itself.

They don't score it worse emissions whether you drive it alone or pack 4 larger adults on every journey.

More likely a drivetrain issue, will the electric motor get too hot if your on a 1 in 10 hill towing a large caravan?

Think of the worse case a hot day and stop start traffic on that hill so your constantly creeping away, how hot will the motor and battery get and will it fail within the warranty?

Max tow is not all about the cars kerbweight, how strong is the drivetrain and will it do that enough times and not fail within the warranty?

Grampian may have a good point there.

My Lexus RX450h weighs around 2250kg and has a towing limit of 2000kg.

The battery system has vents in the base of the rear seats to aid cooling of the battery system.
The electric motor system also has it's own cooling system separate from the one for the petrol engine.

Thanks both. Sort of answers why mine had such a low towing weight compared to its diesel counterpart.

my neighbour has a Volvo XC60 Hybrid...He pulls a large Bailey caravan...says it pulls very well and goes like the clappers on its own...He has had it re-mapped ( ?) and advises that its now 430BHP ....I have experienced the acceleration in full AWD Sport and can say its very very quick....
