I looked at the CX5 models 2 years ago and from what I can remember they are fairly light. I tow a Sprite Major with a 1500kg MTPLM and decided that it was too heavy, your Challenger must be heavier than our Sprite and I expect that the caravan is heavier than the car.

Hi, I thought the kerbweight of the petrol version was about 1500 but I haven't looked at the figures for over 2 years and specs and weights have probably changed since I last looked.
Your weights give almost a 100% match so it is possible but I wouldn't be happy towing long distances with that sort of weight especially with a petrol engine. If it is only going to be one trip a year to a nearby site then it might be ok, it would be legal (assuming you have B+E on your licence) but it might not be the best tow vehicle for that weight of caravan.

I use a SsangYong Korando 2.2 diesel auto which is a great car but not what you want for the daily commute. The new Korando has just been launched with a 1.5 petrol with a 1500kg tow limit, there are some good deals on the older model at the moment but I'm not sure if there are any petrol models available. CAMC members get a free towbar with SsangYong cars which will save you the best part of £700.
Will the Mazda dealer let you have the demo car for a weekend so you can tow with it?
Rob
Just looked at the offers, a new, old model, Korando is available from £18000 but it's a 2.2 diesel.
