Yep I get that SamandRose, but you have to look at the price of the MG, for many folk it will tick all the box’s.
But I agree the battery is to small, any new BEV imho should have a 100kwh battery as a minimum, as that would give at least 350 miles range, summer and winter.
The problem with the MG is that it is a fossil car adapted to BEV, the makers SAIC of China should have designed something from the ground up to be a BEV, but that would have pumped up the cost.
Even the Tesla Model 3 is just a 74kwh battery for the LR, and being a smallish car not an SUV is good for 300+ miles range.
I would not touch the MG with a barge pole, but at 3 years old coming of lease, they will be a cheap used buy for around £10k and could become the go to used BEV purchase for many.
A similar sized SUV BEV to the MG will be the Tesla Model Y which comes out in the next year or so, but that will be double the price of the MG.

I think that is an introductory offer for the first 10,000 orders, although looking on YouTube, a number of folk have already cancelled and got there £500 deposit back.
Apparently there have been some rust issues with the fossil models and the 7 year anti perforation warranty seems slightly less than comprehensive.
But again, what do you expect with such a cheap vehicle, there has to be a compromise, but rapid depreciation will benefit used buyers to a certain extent.
It’s current nearest rival is the Kia Kona BEV, at £10,000 or even more above the cost of the MG, although in fairness to the Kona it does have much better range, I guess you would just have to spend more time charging with MG, but if you don’t do high mileage and are not in a rush, that will be fine with many folk.

Well I got that number wrong on the MG discount, it originally applied to the first 1000 sold, but that soon got eaten up with them doing 1078 sales in June alone, and they have since gone on to sell over 2000 units, so the MG discount has now to apply to the first 3000 sales, according to Autocar.co.uk who feature an interesting article on the MG ZS EV.
To be fair SAIC who are the Chinese manufacturer have sold 135,000 of the cars over in China, of course China is a massive market, but such a high number would make you think that any problems with production would have been long ironed out by now.
Maybe those U.K. problems with corrosion, one car was just 6 months old, are isolated cases as can happen with any car brand.
MG have at least got one thing right in that they are not offering various battery capacities, it come in just the 44kw, although as mentioned before they should have gone with at least double that, but I guess that they are just aiming to keep the price as low as possible, also offering only two trim/feature models is another good move as it keeps production more simple.
One of the reasons for the limited battery pack, I guess is due to the fact that the MG ZS EV is a bastardised fossil car, and that a larger battery pack could not be accommodated.
In fact even the 44Kw battery is slung worryingly low below the car, although will make the car very stable with such a low centre of gravity, not to sure what happens when the car meets a sleeping policeman !

That's a bit harsh Bessie, but I will take your word for it as I have never been in a modern day MG.
Apart from not being able to tow with the MG ZS EV it does appear an OK budget BEV, of course there has to be a compromise when paying just £21k when the closest competitor is wrong £29k.
For a lot of folk the small 44kwh battery will not be an issue, even if the range is just 163 miles, as fast charging from 10% up to 80% takes under 40 minutes.
The MG ZS EV, is selling like hot cakes, that there is no doubt.
Although our fleet manager was less than impressed when I mentioned the MG, incidentally the finance director at the firm I works drives a Tesla Model S, so at least there is a benchmark at the firm when it comes to BEV's.
Down at my level, we are just greatfull for what we get, the petrol BMW 1 series was a nightmare on many levels, the Ford Focus 3 pot 1.5lt Diesel that I am driving now is much better, but I feel like I am driving around in a dinasor.
