Hi, just had a very exciting/scary drive through Petworth!! Would have been fine if I hadn't be towing my caravan! My question is.. can anyone recommend an app that I can use for directions like Waze or Google maps which takes into account what I'm towing so I don't end up negotiating tiny little streets and single track roads!?
Thanks.. Anne

I think the original poster was asking for apps not sat navs. I have been looking for apps for the past few months as she requested but not had a lot of luck. I just wanted something as a backup to the sat nag and have found Google maps responsive to delays, accidents etc but I can't find anything that will take into account towing a large caravan.

CoPilot is available on Android and Apple, and includes caravan specific directions. Never used it though and don't know how much it is after the free trial

Worth a look?!

Cheers
Ian

For what it's worth, I tend to check the potential "pinch points" by using Google Street View. Also, my assumption is, if Street View is not available, then there's a good chance it's going to be a problem for the caravan.

Being fairly new to towing, I find it beneficial to plan my route, and if necessary/possible I'll go a longer way around to avoid potential problems.

Having said that, although I'm not experienced at towing at all, I have had to tow through a few towns (Bristol recently)

To be honest, Petworth looks a bit scary to me, but what would have scared the bejeesus out of me at first, I'm now comfortable with. So if you're new (ish)?? then give it time and you may find you don't need an expensive sat nav.

I bought a truck sat nav off ebay , was sceptical but for the price I gave it a go. To be fair been very good , never sent us anywhere it shouldn't. It has a car and caravan setting so you can input your dimensions. They provide updates by way of an sd card.

The "Caravan & Motorhome friendly" satnavs & apps that I've looked at say they will do things like steer you away from low bridges & bridges with weight limits - great.

The one thing I would like it to do is pick a route which might be a few miles longer, but keeps to wider roads whenever possible.

That country lane might be very handy, but I'll swap an extra five or ten miles for a white knuckle ride anyday.

The maps underlying all of them have very little real data on road widths where it counts - on that hairpin bend at the hump-back bridge etc.

The original poster is after apps for a phone , rather than self contained sat nav units
