I was looking at the wrong vehicle here is what the real specs are:
It'll reach 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, tow up to 7,500 pounds, and carry 3,500 pounds in its base guise. The two-motor variant will reach 60 in 4.5 seconds and tow 10,000 pounds, and the three-motor model will hit 60 in 2.9 seconds and pull 14,000 pounds. Range will vary from 250 to 500 miles.

That is more like it!

I take it you need the two or three motor variant for four wheel drive, the 0 to 60 is irrelevant in a pick and if you did that a few times the range would plummet. But those base figures are impressive if accurate, the only thing I would need to know is how much range is lost if towing say 3500 Kg for a decent distance.

Prices for the UK 4x4 variant would be interesting.

I'd be a bit sceptical about those figures,I have seen specs that vary considerably.

Someone should have told Musk that beforehand. I don't need bullet-proof glass, but the situation made a fool of him because he didn't know how to handle it - not what one would expect from the leader of a mega-corporation. Yep 664DaveS, I guess the same thing happened when fossil cars first arrived on the roads, with much hilarity from passing coach and horse drivers, as fossil car drivers waited to fill up at the one and only fuel station in town.

Kinda history repeating itself, there is no doubting it that BEV’s are the future, and the great thing is that they are here and now.

I reckon it will be down to BEV or fuel cell once infrastructure sorted, oh and an adequate electrical supply!
I would consider a hybrid at the moment although a BEV would be a possibility were I still working. I did not do many miles so doable.

It took even longer to water and feed a horse. The stage coaches did have a system in which they swapped horses for fresh ones, which did not take very long. However, the equivalent for EVs would be to swap the battery for a fresh one but in their stupidity - sorry I meant wisdom - car makers are not following that method, which is why I'm not interested in getting an EV.

The picture you paint of early motorists queuing at "fuel stations" is untrue. There were no fuel stations, they bought petrol at chemist's shops and for long journeys they carried reserve cans on the running boards. In any case there were very few early motorists, just a few rich guys, so no queues.

Motoring as a form of mass transport grew slowly (over ~60 years) and the provision of petrol stations grew with it. However the EV fans want the move to EVs to happen very quickly, so the comparison is not valid. We can install chargers at existing filling stations and elsewhere, assuming the strengthening of the electricity supply, but the queueing problem remains unless you have about twenty times as many charge points as petrol pumps at present (assuming even the most optimistic charging times), and there is still the pain of the charging time itself. Home or streetside charging will help, but has its limits and is no use on a long journey.

Check out the Seat Minimo Dr Zhivago, with it’s swop out battery system, the Minimo is similar to the Renault Twizzy but more refined.

The Minimo will make for a great urban commuter vehicle, when it comes to market next year.

The next thing we will end up with is a battery/cell mountain as those batteries/cells will not last the life of the vehicle or anywhere near will they and no matter how good you might maintain them all batteries/cells slowly degrade giving a less useful amount of charge run.
I can see it now - i had it on charge it said full but it only gave me 20miles of power

Sorry to disappoint chatterdog, but Tesla battery’s are still good for 80% or more capacity after 8 years, and have been projected to still have useful range even after 25 years off use.

By which time significant advances in battery tech will make battery life expectancy a none topic.
