Hi
Currently got a 2014 Ford Mondeo estate which is diesel and tows our 4 berth van lovely.
However, hubby no longer works miles away and the diesel is now not suitable as short trips only on daily basis.
So now looking at petrol car for towing. Not a brand new car so something about 4 years old.
Anyone recommend a good petrol model? He likes a decent sized boot to put wine in when we come back from France 😁 .

What is the MTPLM of the caravan? Without knowing the answer to that question we can't give any meaningful suggestions.

Petrol Mondeo estate? They might be a bit too light so perhaps an S-Max or Galaxy could be better.

I would say to stick with what you already have, firstly due to the cost to change and then increased fuel consumption and servicing intervals, all you need to do is take it for a run out to give it a bit of a run once a week and it would be fine

It makes little sense changing a 6 year old car you know for a 4 year old one you don't.

The Mondeo will be fine, it may do more regular DPF regens and depending on mileage may be close to needing DPF work anyway.

Take it 10miles along a dual carriageway at over 50mph once a month. That’s all it needs to keep dpf clear.

You can't keep a DPF clear, they all block eventually.

Did 90k miles in 8yrs in my previous Citroen with no issues apart from Eolys fluid bag replaced at 80k miles when it ran out. Certain makes are known to be more problematic but you are going back over 10years now. Dpf problems on more modern diesels have been largely solved.

Most cars 2016 on that are Euro6 use AdBlue which has mostly solved the problem although of course that adds even more complication to the whole system.

As pointed out any used car a few years old petrol or diesel could be problematic so if the op’s current car is ok they might do well to hang onto it & give it a run once a month as suggested.
