Looking at buying a VW Tiguan 2lt TDi 2WD Manual, 2015 plate, to be fair it will be my Son’s (35) motor, but I will be on the insurance, and I only intend to use it for our annual trip to France, firstly for towing my trailer, but later a caravan.
Whilst I am using the Tiguan for France, my Son will have the use of my company car, which for various reasons is not practical to have a tow bar fitted.
I actually prefer the body design of this model of Tiguan, I think there was a body change in 2016 which gave some aggressive lines to the body, these later models also command a premium price.
I am just starting my research and was wondering if there are any major issues with the model I am interested in.
I see that the model I am interested in uses Add-blue, no problem with that.
Just any views on the 2015 Tiguan would be appreciated.

Thank's I thought that about adblue not being an issue, the car will not be doing a high annual mileage say 20k or so, apart from the 3000 mile trip over to France each year, did that in a 2019 plate 3 Pot Petrol 1.5lt!Kuga last July, and it cost me a fortune in petrol.
Diesel is still cheaper than Petrol in France, so it's a double whammy on fuel costs in a good way, although I hear that may be set to change, and be the reverse as they try to push Diesel's of the road, but that will be in the long term, so the Diesel thing is not really bothering me, it's all about the real world here and now economics for me at the moment.

That might be true Bessie, but the bank of mum & dad, will be having a significant input , if all goes ahead, also I need to find out what the car policy is with the current firm, I was TUPED back in March, and have not yet been told what car we get, let alone the company car policy.
Spent March on garden leave, and then since April been on furlough, whilst on furlough access to works comms are prohibited.
Although I am expecting to return to work in August, strange old times indeed.

Personally I would say that the Tiguan offers a better drivers position over the Passat, I just prefer that elevated seat that SUV’s provide.
Also I would go for the Skoda Superb over the Passat, a lot more car for a lot less money, with basically the same mechanics under the bonnet.
In fact I do need to have a look at the Skoda SUV’s, there is sure to be an equivalent to the Tiguan for less money, I don’t care about the badge, a car is a car at the end of the day.
This calls for the bread analogy
The Skoda Superb is a bit like a low-cost loaf of sliced bread in a supermarket. Really nothing wrong with it at all, absolutely fine to have for breakfast in the morning but also, nothing really to make you go "mm, this is nice".
The Passat is a bit more like the fresh crusty loaf in the bakery section of the same supermarket. It's made with the same ingredients and offers the same nutritional value, and there's no rational reason why you should pay more for it. But some people do - myself included -because it's just that bit nicer somehow.
We've had both the Passat and Skoda as company fleet cars and the VW has slightly nicer plastics, more comfortable seats and I think that it's better soundproofed. None of these things make any difference to reliability or running costs, but they matter to me because I spend some days of my life practically living in the damn things. Whether they matter to you is entirely down to personal preference.
I haven't driven the SUVs but would imagine that the same applies.
