OK I have a company car, but fitting a tow bar is no longer practical as we have gone from 3 year lease, to keeping the car for 12 months or less, we had BMW’s and only had them for 4 months.
So plan B is to get my own tow car, which my Son (35) will drive for 49 weeks of the year, and we get to use it for 3 weeks each year whilst he has the use of my company car.
So I first started looking at the VW Tiguan, I can get a 2015 model for around £10k, but having looked at the MG ZS, the 2019 models are going for around the same money.
The towing capacity of the MG is not brilliant, but fine for my camping trailer, and the space in the car is not far of that of the Tiguan.
Towing a caravan with the MG could be a challenge, but eventually when I get a caravan, I only intend towing it down to France the once, and then leave it there in storage.
But is it me, is the MG ZS not the U.K.’s best kept secret when it comes to a affordable SUV.
I have yet more research to do, but the MG ZS is looking like the way to go.

Yep Bessie, I took a Ford Kuga 19 plate down to Frejus June/July last year, could not fault the car, I thought it may be out of my price range as the P11D was £30k, but it appears a cheaper buy than the Tiguan for a 3 year old model, going of your example, I guess VW always adds a badge premium to the price over Ford.
So that’s got me thinking, will have a look at Kuga’s.
Yep 664DaveS, the thought of a car being made in China did not put me of, in fact they are even making Tesla’s in Shanghai now.
But I do get what your saying, Hyundai and Kia seem to give you a lot of bang for your buck, so I will extend my search to include those marques as well.
The last time I bought a car was in 1982, so I am a bit rusty, and definitely in no hurry, of course I have the added complexity of including my Son as he will be using the car most, but it will be a nice upgrade for him from his 16 plate two door 1lt Fiesta, although 35 he did have a bump earlier this year so his insurance could be an issue, which will mean unravelling some of his financial stuff, to get we’re we need to be with this project, all doable though.
Son has a Mrs to his one year old and her ten year old, so a bigger car for them will be great.
