Hello again. Back for some much needed help regarding my volvo s40 starting to eat through the low beam bulbs at a worrying rate usually a bulb is lasting a couple of weeks. I am careful when replacing them I don't touch glass. Any help much appreciated. A real head scratcher.
😳
I have read elsewhere that you have to change the faulty bulb and the same one the other side at the same time because the system doesn't seem to like it, it might be worth a try.
Am I the only person to be unlucky enough to have a problem with volvo low beam bulbs. When the volvo is probably the most used tow car on the planet. 🤔🤔
I had exactly the same message on my Volvo only last week actually so I purchased a new halogen bulb immediately, discarded the old one and and replaced it with the new. Message cleared and problem sorted. However, I've owned the car now for 8 years which during that time have only had one low beam bulb go on the nearside (about 4 years ago) and now the offside this time. Because the halogen bulbs get hot any vibration could shorten their life so as the bulbs are not lasting very long it could be that one of the wheels need re-balancing. If you feel the slightest vibration through the steering wheel then that's evidence that that one of the tyres are out of balance but I doubt whether it's an electrical fault as the fuse would blow as soon after you put in the new bulb and started the car up.
Thank you. Now I feel like I have something to work on. I get a slight judder at 70mph but very slight. Bi am changing bulbs every 2 or 3 weeks. Not blowing fuses. Driving me mad.
😳
Are you purchasing halogen bulbs off internet auction sites etc. or buying direct from a motor factors on the high street?
The reason I ask is because some sellers trade in cheap Chinese imports which are not manufactured to the same standard to that of well named brands. I purchased both of my low beam bulbs for my Volvo from Halford's. However, the bulbs in your Volvo shouldn't need to be replaced as often as you say so get the front tyres checked out first and see how it goes.
