Looking for advice stabiliser lever lifting while towing. So now caravan can sway as not engaged fully. Hand brake is not interferring with this lever on braking. On engagement this lever is very tight so I don't understand why it moves. Anyone have a solution to this
Have you checked your friction pads, they could possibly be worn. If they are replacing is quite straight forward once you have identified which hitch you have & pads required.
There is a little recessed area either side of the hitchlock on the red or black rubber dock cover at the front, and arrows on either side of the alloy handle down next to the hitch. Place the ball inside and close the handle until it just grips/meets resistance, make a noto of where the little arrows are pointing. If they are above or inside the recessed area, they are ok, but if the above it the pads are worn and need replacing.
If you need new ones they come with a load of shim washers, you may not need all or any of them, they are there if you need them to set up the correct grip pressure.

I wonder how ashefield is getting on with the problem, and if any replies has helped.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I fitted new friction pads with no shims recently. When pushing down stabiliser lever it was too difficult by hand and needed to stand on lever to get it fully down. Would this damage stabiliser mechanism. Really feels tight when engaging so don't understand why it releases by itself and handbrake lever not interferring with stabiliser lever.
I to have just fitted new pads. It was impossible to push the lever down! Took it all to bits again and re-sited the pads. Now all well although still stiff it is now possible to push down. I think one of my pads was not fully seated. They take quite a push to get them in properly. hope this helps.
You shouldn't need to stand on the lever to get it down, especially with no shims in, as I think such excessive pressure will do some harm.
Have you looked to see if there was already some shims remaining inside from the last time? Failing that, maybe the same scenario as Manty?
