We found the weight on the tow ball limit was only 50k. Not sure if that has changed but with a Conway Countryman 2010 it was a balancing act to get it within that limit.

The 16T is hopeless at towing unless you have a lightweight caravan around 1000kg
Also they are extremely thirsty when towing
Far better with the 2.0 crdi engine in either manual or auto form
I have the GT line S 184bhp automatic and it’s very stable tow car with plenty of grunt when towing my 1500kg bailey

I don't do enough miles for diesel so was looking for a petrol that was good at towing.

Any choice of car is trade off of towing non towing. How much performance do you need ? Torque figures for current 1.6 turbo petrol are
considerably better than say Peugeot 1.6 diesel. So won’t be that bad.

How did you get on winky? I was wondering the same. We have a 2020 1.6 T GDI GT Line 2WD and have just bought a Senator S6 Indiana and wondered if the car would struggle. Thanks

Diesel engines are generally much better at towing than similar sized petrol engines. They produce much more torque than petrol engines and produce it at a much lower engine speed. Most people look at peak BHP when looking at a vehicles performance and that is a good indicator of everyday performance, but largely useless for towing as you almost never reach peak bhp with a caravan as you should change gear to maximise torque rather than power.

Hi, thanks for replying so even though it's a 1.6 turbo petrol you still think it would be useless?

Mrs Freeman, have you checked the weights of the car and caravan? I think the MTPLM of your caravan is around 1500kg which is about the same as the kerb weight of the car so not a good match especially for a novice tower. This combination will probably have a gross train weight over 3500kg so you will need a B+E licence.

Hi , thanks for replying. My husband has a B&E which is good. The Kerbweight of our car is 1452kg the dealer told me and they said the unladen weight of the caravan is about 1259kg because we woukd just be going away for weekends and we travel light we were told it would be ok if we were to load up the car and keep the caravan empty. The maximum weight if the car is 2100kg.

Mrs Freeman, you do not work with the Kerb weight of the car and the unloaded weight of the caravan, it is always the kerbweight of the car and the loaded weight of the caravan MPTLM whether or not the caravan is loaded or not. There have been so many people that have posted on here that have tried to manipulate these figures to right a wrong by saying they will put everything in the car, there is no getting around the fact that your caravan at 1500kg weighs more than the kerbweight of your car which any experienced tower would know is wrong, it is advised that an inexperienced tower should tow at 85% of the kerbweight being about 1230kg in your case, an experienced tower up to 100% of kerbweight.
Your dealer gave you the wrong advice but then he is a salesman.
You need to get a heavier more powerful car.
Tina
